StopWatch Theatre to tour #iloveyoumumplay again!

27 November 2017

We’re really excited to announce that bookings are now underway for a second theatre-in-education tour by StopWatch Theatre Company of Mark Wheeller’s play about Dan. StopWatch will be taking its moving and engaging production of ‘I Love You, Mum – I Promise I Won’t Die’ into schools, colleges and communities across London from 10 January to 28 March 2018. For two weeks in April StopWatch will be taking the play across the UK. Performances will be followed by interactive drug and alcohol workshops.

The impact on audiences of last year’s tour was incredible. After seeing the play, 88% of students who admitted taking drugs before said they were less likely to do so again, and 99% who hadn’t said they were less likely to do so in the future. Schools reported the powerful effect experiencing the play and workshop had on their students, including those usually hardest to engage:

‘Thank you to you and all the cast for such a moving production this morning… the students were spell-bound.  During the workshop they asked some excellent questions and were still as engaged.  Speaking to some of them afterwards at break, they had found the whole experience a very powerful one.’

Julie Haunstetter, Learning Co-coordinator Year 9, Carshalton Boys

‘The pupils are still talking about the play and it's been fascinating to hear the different messages they took from it.  Every single pupil has said that they learned something they didn't know and that it made them think more seriously about the risks of drug use.  Thank you again for making the play available to our pupils.’

Anne Murphy, Vice Principal, Sir Richard Reynolds Catholic College

‘I feel extremely lucky that our year 10s were able to witness such a beautifully constructed and well executed piece of drama that was really able to turn their heads.’

John Vickery, Head of Drama, Langley Park School for Boys
